Louis Civello Bio
Louis Civello grew up in Broad Channel Queens, NY.
Louis attended high school at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and subsequentially earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Queens College.
Hailing from a police family Louis’ lifelong vocation was to serve his community as a law enforcement officer. Louis joined the New York City Police Department in 2000. In June of 2001, Louis left the NYPD to pursue a career with the Suffolk County Police Department.
Louis was assigned to Suffolk County’s 5th Precinct, the place that would be home for most of his career. Louis wore the uniform proudly, spending nearly twenty years answering 911 calls as a patrol officer.
In 2006, Louis took on the dual role of serving his fellow officers while protecting the public. He became a PBA Union Delegate. He played an integral part in the founding of the SCPBA Political Awareness Committee. This grassroots union organizing movement helped shape the Suffolk PBA into the political powerhouse it is today.
In 2012, Louis was elected to the position of Union Trustee where he expanded his leadership role, becoming responsible for one of the County’s seven Precincts. As a PBA trustee, he was assigned to the PBA negotiating committee. He assisted in negotiating two successful contracts, achieving better rights, wages, and benefits for Suffolk County Police Officers.
In 2019, Louis ran unopposed for the position of Suffolk PBA 2nd Vice President a top leadership position where he oversaw healthcare and contract grievances.
In 2025, Louis successfully negotiated a new contract for 1,700 Suffolk County Police Officers, securing an 18% pay increase over five years, faster progression to top pay, and enhanced benefits. The deal was overwhelmingly approved by membership and praised for improving officer retention and strengthening public safety.
Today, Louis serves as President of the Suffolk County PBA, the County’s largest law enforcement union. He also recently assumed the role of President of UCOPS a national police organization, further expanding his leadership and advocacy on behalf of law enforcement officers across the country. Thousands of police officers and their families depend on the PBA to represent them. Louis is committed to continuing the legacy of unsurpassed excellence, fierce advocacy, and relentless defense of law enforcement that the SCPBA is known for.
Louis and his loving wife Dawn reside in Suffolk County, NY where they are active in the community and raise their two amazing sons.

After college, he worked in the private sector in Chicago, Illinois, but ultimately answered the call to serve by returning home and joining the St. Paul Police Department.
Early in his law enforcement career, Mark became deeply involved in police labor representation. He has served the St. Paul Police Federation in multiple leadership roles, including Union Steward, Chief Steward, Secretary, Treasurer, and President.
